Midi-CREMIS, February 17, 2026<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bbee796 e-grid e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"bbee796\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7ab0a42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7ab0a42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On February 17, 2026, as part of a lunch and learn event with the Centre de Recherche de Montr\u00e9al \u00a0sur les in\u00e9galit\u00e9s sociales, les discriminations et les pratiques alternatives et citoyennes, we had the pleasure of presenting the results of the research project\u00a0<em>\u201cMental Health and Child Protection: Exploring Mental Health Service Standards within Youth Protection Services.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0This study aims to support equitable and appropriate access to mental health services throughout the child protection trajectory, including the transition to adulthood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The\u00a0<strong>main objective<\/strong>\u00a0of the research is to\u00a0<strong>formulate evidence-informed recommendations<\/strong>\u00a0that help improve practices and guide the development of standards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After meeting with 44 key stakeholders \u2014 including young people formerly placed in care \u2014 our\u00a0<strong>recommendations<\/strong>\u00a0for developing mental health standards within youth protection services emphasize the need to ensure:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>A coordinated circle of care<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Clear guidelines for complex needs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Meaningful inclusion of young people\u2019s voices<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Stability and consistency<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Shared decision-making<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Relational approaches<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognition of traumas<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Trauma-informed practices<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Support and training for staff<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A holistic view of well-being<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>A Presentation Rich in Perspectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first part of the session featured a presentation of the main research findings, led by the principal researcher,\u00a0<strong>Emmanuelle Khoury, PhD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second part opened the floor to an inspiring discussion with:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>Myriam Lepage-Lamazzi<\/strong>\u00a0(Mouvement Jeune et Sant\u00e9 Mentale)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jessica C\u00f4t\u00e9-Guimond<\/strong>\u00a0(Collectif Ex-plac\u00e9 DPJ)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00c9milie Roy<\/strong>\u00a0(youth expert, co-founder of Mouvement Jeune et Sant\u00e9 Mentale and Collectif Ex-plac\u00e9 DPJ)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Five Areas for Reflection and Action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discussions were structured around five central themes:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li><strong>From research to action: building collective responsibility<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A system that harms: a macro and systemic perspective<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Invisible trauma, inaccessible knowledge: what do youth in care know about trauma?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Equitable standards or standardized equity?
